Twin Pregnancy Week 16

By week 16, your babies arms and legs are getting longer and longer and fingernails are formed.  Fat begins to form underneath babies' skins.  Your babies fingerprints are formed by now as well.  If you have identical twins, they each will have his or her distinct fingerprints.

Most mothers will start feeling babies' movement around this week.

A routine ultrasound is usually scheduled between week 16-18.

An expert ultrasound technician may be able to detect the gender of your babies by now, but it may not be very accurate. So do not hold your breath yet.

Amniocentesis test is usually performed between week 16 and 18.  If you are 35 with a singleton, amniocentesis is highly recommended by professionals.  However, if you are 33 or older and pregnant with twins, then your doctor may suggest the amnio test.  Pregnancy at 33 with twins carries the same risks as being 35 and pregnant with a singleton.
