Weightloss After Having Twins

At some point in time, after you are used to your daily routine of taking care of your twins, it comes a time that you should take care of yourself and I bet weight loss will be on top of the list.

Losing weight after having twins may not be as difficult as trying to get your pre-pregnancy body shape back. Since you have gained more weight with your twin pregnancy, you have to put in more effort to lose more weight.  Or it may simply take longer to lose the weight.

An average weight gain with a singleton pregnancy is between 25-35 pounds.  With twins the average weight gain is between 35-45 pounds. You do lose quite a bit of weight at the beginning when the twins are born.  Then over time you lose a lot of the retained water.

If you had gestational diabetes during your pregnancy, then it is very important to lose weight as quickly as possible.  The longer you wait, the harder it becomes.

Some people claim that breastfeeding helps in losing weight.  It may help shrinking the uterus but you have to eat about 500 calories more to keep the flow of milk for the babies. You may need to wait after the breastfeeding is over to think about dieting. I believe the best way to lose weight is to take less calories than you burn.  Eat, eat well, but do not over eat.  Try smaller portions.  Also eat food in its natural form.  Try to avoid fake sugar, or chemicals in the food. You will be surprised at the result.

If you crave sweets, try a little bit of (56 - 80%) dark chocolate.  Lindt and Cote d`Or offer great ones.  This will keep you satisfied for a while.  Also try soaking walnuts in water over night - wash them first so water seems clear.  Eat them in the morning or snack on them during the day (you can peel the skin easily which makes it more delicious). They are very filling.

Now to get your pre-pregnancy shape back, including flat abs, you need to exercise. However, with twins pregnancy there will be some extra loose skin hanging around.  Sometimes the easiest way to look like you did before is to get a tummy tuck. There is another new method which is avaiable in Europe and Canada and will be available in the US shortly is called Lipsonix in which intense ultrasond waves will target the fat under your belly in order to melt them. The method is non-invasive and is only suitable if you want to get rid of a small amout of fat. As for loose skin, you many want to thermage another non-invasive method for skin lifting.

A good diet that seems to be addressing the belly fat issue and is worth trying is the Abs Diet. My last few pounds were shed by doing this diet. The shake is very delicious as well.

Meanwhile, if you need to follow a program or need outside help to lose weight there are some great places for you to check out:

●  eDiets.com offers a wide rage of diets for your to choose from, form Vegetarian to Atkins. My absolute favourite is Mediterranean diet, which has worked for centuries.

WeightWatchers.ca - Another popular program to help people lose some weight.   Canadians Should try the above link, and people form US can visit weightwatchers.com.

Remember before starting any diet to check with your health care giver.  This is specially true if you like to follow a low carb diet such as Atkins. You should also never diet during your pregnancy.
